Biography

As one of the premier Bariatric surgeons in the Houston area and currently the Chief of Bariatric

Surgery of both Bayshore Hospital and 1st Street Hospital, both of which are Centers for Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Jayakumar has become a top choice for Houstonians seeking weight loss surgery. He has over 28 years of surgical experience and has successfully completed over 2,644 bariatric procedures.

Dr. Jay is a board certified general surgeon specializing in the surgical treatment of morbid obesity. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and certified by the Center of Excellence of the American Society of Metabolic and Obesity Surgery. Currently, Dr. Jay specializes in weight-loss surgeries including: Roux-en-y gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, adjustable gastric banding, bilio-pancreatic diversion, and duodenal switch. He is also among a handful of surgeons in Houston specializing revisional bariatric surgery.

When he is not scrubbed into the Operating Room, Dr. Jay enjoys a dabbling with photography, jogging with his dog, and testing out recipes on his wife and three adult children.
