How to Proceed

Dr. Jay and his highly qualified staff are dedicated to providing attentive, individualized care. Each patient is strongly encouraged to actively engage in discussion and resolution of all concerns regarding their weight loss surgery with the office. This is a life altering decision and it is imperative that you make this choice with open eyes and a clear understanding of what to expect. This is not a one size fits all approach.

Once you have made the decision to undergo weight-loss surgery, you must realize that surgery is not a cure- all but a tool to aid in you a fundamental lifestyle change. Ultimate success hinges on making a lifelong commitment after surgery to strictly adhere to a healthy approach to diet and exercise.

Pre-Operative Process

Contact Dr. Jay's office to schedule a surgical consultation at 713-995-1202. At the time of consultation a detailed history and physical examination will be completed. Further tests will be ordered if you meet the medical criteria to ensure that your overall health is ideal for surgery. Dr. Jay may recommend a psychological evaluation to assess your mental status and competency to comply with the lifelong changes of the procedure.

Verification of insurance coverage:

Predetermination: to determine if the procedure covered under your plan. The consultation report will be submitted to the insurance company.

Preauthorization: after predetermination authorization is requested and surgery is scheduled. Approximately 3-4 weeks for surgery date.

 

Pre-operative Visit: second visit to the surgeon’s office preoperative instructions and consent forms are given. You are encouraged to ask any remaining questions prior to scheduling your surgery date.

Post-Operative Visits:

It is imperative that you visit with Dr. Jay regularly on scheduled post operative visits. Your results will be suboptimal if you neglect the follow-up.

Recommended follow-up schedule for Gastric Sleeve, Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass and Duodenal Switch:

  • 2 weeks
  • 6 weeks
  • 3 months
  • 6 months
  • 1 year on a yearly basis

Recommended follow-up schedule for Gastric Banding:

  • 2 weeks
  • 6 weeks
  • Monthly for the first year
  • Quarterly visits for the second year
  • Bi-annually from then on
