If you are 80 to 100 lbs above ideal weight or if the BMI is more than 35, the chances of successful weight loss with diet and exercise alone is 5%. If diet and exercise fails, you should consider weight loss surgery
Most insurances covers obesity surgery, if you are medically qualified. Some insurance has additional criteria( e.g; requirement for prior medically supervised weight loss program. My office can help you with these issues.
If you are 80 to 100 lbs above ideal weight or (BMI more than 40 kgs/m2 or BMI more than 35 with co-morbidities like diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol, sleep apnea, etc.) Our trained office staff will help you on this process.
The main delay is getting the insurance approval, it takes anywhere from 3 weeks to 4 weeks for the insurance approval. Some insurance company may require mandatory waiting period. After the approval, your surgery can be scheduled in about a week or two.
Most of Dr. Jay’s patient stays overnight in the hospital. Revisional surgeries because of the complex nature may require 1 or 2 days extra stay.
The average time off is 2 weeks. Since Dr. Jay’s performs almost his surgeries laparoscopically. Some work requiring extensive physical labor may require more time off.
After most of the weight loss procedure the weight stabilizes 20% to 30% of the above the ideal weight. Excess weight loss need to be investigated vigorously for possible complication.
Excess skin will result with significant weight loss by any means surgical or non- surgical. Younger patient less than 25 years tend to have more elasticity in the skin and hence less sagging skin. Plastic surgery may be considered after weight stabilization.
